Google Nano Banana 2.1 just got better at the stuff that matters.
The new image model brings stronger subject consistency, better mask-based editing, sharper visual design, and improved text rendering; making it more useful for iterative creative work rather than one-shot image generation.
The biggest upgrade may be control: you can make targeted edits while preserving the parts of an image you want to keep, while multi-image reference support can maintain consistency across characters and objects.
And Google is already putting it inside AI Mode in Search, making the model available in a place far beyond the Gemini app.
The image-generation race is increasingly becoming an editing-and-control race.
