OpenAI Launched ChatGPT O3 and O4 Mini to Boost AI Reasoning Skills

OpenAI just rolled out two new models—O3 and O4 Mini—and they’re less about flash, more about thinking.

These aren’t built to impress with clever one-liners; they’re designed to reason.

O4 Mini is already powering the free version of ChatGPT, and it’s the strongest “Mini” so far. O3’s still in testing but shows promise as a more focused thinker.

The key difference is that these models don’t just spit out quick responses—they’re trained to work through layered questions, plan steps, and actually connect ideas. They’ve even been tuned to handle images better, giving more thoughtful takes on what they see.

The bigger picture is that OpenAI is nudging us toward a future where models act like a team, each doing what they’re best at. These aren’t general-purpose giants—they’re thoughtful specialists built to do the harder thinking.
