Meta just put a price tag on the future of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and AI.

This looks like the beginning of Meta turning its massive free social ecosystem into something closer to a subscription business.

Meta launched Meta One, a new collection of subscription bundles combining premium features across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Meta AI. Consumer plans start at $7.99 per month, while creator and business tiers run all the way up to $499 per month.

Here’s the real story:

Meta isn’t putting its core apps behind a paywall.

It’s creating a premium layer on top of them.

Individual subscribers get Instagram Plus, WhatsApp Plus, Facebook Plus, and higher limits for AI media generation, including generating images with Muse and using features like Instagram Restyle. Meta says the bundles could eventually expand to Edits, AI glasses, and more.

For creators and businesses, things get more interesting. Higher tiers can include verification, impersonation protection, scheduling, deeper analytics, links in organic posts and Reels, higher search rankings, team access, and increased use of Meta’s Business Agent.

Meta spent two decades getting billions of people accustomed to using its products for free.

Now it’s figuring out how many of them will pay for a better version of the internet they already use every day.
