Threads is making a serious play for podcasters, and it doesn’t even want to host their shows.

Meta wants Threads to become the place where the conversation around podcasts happens.

Threads doesn’t need to become a podcast platform. It wants to become the social layer sitting on top of all of them.

Threads is rolling out new tools that give podcasters dedicated profile cards and banners, while episode links become tappable cards that make it easier for followers to jump directly into a show. Creators can also publish transcripts, tag guests with dedicated cards, and let users save episodes for later.

Here’s the real story:

Meta doesn’t need to rebuild Spotify or Apple Podcasts.

It needs to own podcast discovery and conversation.

Threads will remind creators when new episodes drop so they can promote them, while new analytics show how posts perform across followers and non-followers.

That gives podcasters another way to understand which conversations are actually expanding their audience.

There’s also a bigger battle happening here.

X has increasingly pushed podcasters toward uploading full video shows directly to its platform.

Threads is taking a different approach: keep hosting your podcast wherever you want, but bring the audience and discussion here.

And with Threads now at 500 million active users, that pitch is becoming harder for creators to ignore.
