Spotify just handed listeners the keys to its algorithm.

For anyone who’s ever wondered why one random song keeps haunting their Spotify Discover Weekly, this is a welcome change.

Spotify’s new Taste Profile gives listeners more control over the music its algorithm thinks they want to hear. Instead of relying entirely on listening history, users can actively shape their recommendations.

Here’s the real story:

Music discovery has always been a trade-off. The algorithm learns what you like, but it can also mistake a temporary obsession, a shared speaker, or a few unusual listening sessions for your permanent taste.

Giving listeners a way to correct that picture changes the relationship. The algorithm becomes something you can guide, rather than something you have to keep retraining by skipping songs.

Spotify is rolling out Taste Profile in beta to U.S. Premium subscribers ages 18 and older.

Users can see how Spotify interprets their listening habits across music, podcasts, and audiobooks, then use natural-language requests to steer recommendations on their Home feed. Changes typically appear within a few hours.

The feature doesn’t give users complete control over every recommendation or guarantee that specific artists will always appear. For now, it offers a more direct way to tell Spotify what you want more of, what you’re tired of, and what you’d like to explore next.

The bigger shift: personalized recommendations are becoming a conversation, not just a prediction.
